Organic food in Toowoomba, the Darling Downs and the Granite Belt
West of the Great Dividing Range, Queensland's food bowl looks very different from the coast. The Darling Downs is grain, cattle and egg country, and the Granite Belt around Stanthorpe has the cool climate that suits apples, stone fruit, berries and wine grapes. Both have organic producers worth knowing about, and many of their products end up in Brisbane shops too.

The businesses below come from our Queensland organic directory. We listed each one from information on its own website. They are not Blueberry Bear sellers or partners, and we have not verified their organic certification. Descriptions sum up what each business says about itself. Ranges and hours change, so check their websites first.
Is your business listed and you'd like it corrected or removed? Our contact page explains how.
Toowoomba
- Mr Organic, Toowoomba: an organic grocer with fresh produce, groceries, meat and dairy, open to the public, with rural delivery.
- All About The Box Organics (online) says it delivers build-your-own boxes of certified organic produce from the Sunshine Coast and Gympie to areas including Toowoomba.
Darling Downs producers
Many Downs producers sell mainly through shops and stockists rather than direct, so their websites usually list where to buy.
- Big Boys Organic Eggs (Ellerslie Free Range Farms), near Millmerran: extra-large eggs it describes as ACO certified organic and free range.
- Valley View Farm, Goombungee: a family farm that says its eggs are certified organic and free range, and also raises grass-fed cattle.
- Hampton Blue, Hampton: blueberries and raspberries it describes as certified organic; it publishes its certificate number. Fresh berries in season, plus frozen berries and jams.
- Clayton's Organic Beef, Kingsthorpe: beef it describes as raised on certified organic farms, sold through stockists.
- Inglewood Organic: free-range chicken it describes as certified organic, sold through retailers.
- Kialla Pure Foods, Greenmount: a miller of organic flours and grains, sold through distributors and retailers.
The Granite Belt
- Symara Organic Farm, north of Stanthorpe: a small family farm growing a changing range of organic produce, sold at Stanthorpe and Warwick markets and at a Granite Belt growers' stall in Brisbane.
The Granite Belt sits at around 800 metres or more above sea level, which is why it's one of the few parts of Queensland with cold winters and frosts. That shapes what grows and when.
What's in season (approximately)
Seasons vary with altitude, rain and frost, and organic supply can be patchy. Treat this as a rough guide and ask growers.
| Season | Darling Downs and Granite Belt (approximate) |
|---|---|
| Spring (Sep–Nov) | Leafy greens, peas and spring vegetables; eggs year-round |
| Summer (Dec–Feb) | Stone fruit, strawberries and other berries, tomatoes, capsicum, sweet corn; early apples late in summer |
| Autumn (Mar–May) | Apples and pears, pumpkins, grapes, potatoes |
| Winter (Jun–Aug) | Brassicas, root vegetables, stored apples; grains and flours year-round |

Tips for shopping in the region
- Check stockist lists. Producers like egg farms and millers often sell through Toowoomba and Brisbane retailers rather than from the farm gate.
- Don't drop in on farms unannounced. Working farms usually aren't shops. Only visit if a website says the farm has opening hours or a farm stay.
- Take an esky in summer. It's a long drive back to the coast.
- Ask about certification at markets. "Spray-free" and "chemical-free" aren't certified terms. See certified organic vs spray-free vs natural.
- Look up the number. If a pack shows a certifier and number, check it on the register. Our certificate checking guide shows how.
Where Blueberry Bear fits
We're building Australia's organic and low-tox marketplace, where every product carries an honest label badge. We'd love to include producers from the Downs and the Granite Belt. If that's you, see Sell with us. Until real sellers join, the stores and products on our marketplace pages are fictional and marked SAMPLE.
Business details from each business's own website, checked 16–17 October 2026. Seasonal timings are approximate. Not an endorsement. General information only.
